hc6, Pedagogicla Liceum, Ukraine, Question:

Daily changes in the human societies can probably never be predicted. Even monthly changes are too much affected by chance for a prediction. On the other hand we should be able to describe long term changes, affecting large numbers of human beings, because here chance variations cancel out. Lets try to analyze the long term changes in today's human society and their interrelation. Which of these changes, in your opinion, will lead to possible future problems in society? And which ones?

We think the problem that will affect Canada the most in the future will be environmental problems. Such as, oil spills, pollution, melting ice caps and the forest industry (lack of trees). Human beings will become sick and start dying because of it.  In Canada, we don’t have many political conflicts, so we tend to focus more on the stability of society and issues that relate to the general public, like environmental concerns.

Pollution likely affects over a billion people around the world. There is an estimate that 25% of all deaths in the developing world are directly affected by environmental problems. Because we have identified this as a Canadian issue we know of and care about.

We think although the fact that our world is developing is a good thing, it is also a bad thing because pollution is a growing problem and is making people very very sick.

In the Netherlands is since January 2013 an alchohol ban introduced for children under 18 years. If you were born in 1997, you can still buy alchohol in the supermarkets when you are 16 years old. This is one of the changes over the long term. In the past was the minimum age to purchase and drink alchohol 16 years. By the behavoir of the youth and the problems they have caused this age increased. The youth is rebellious and starts to drink earlier and get alcohol by connections, because they don't have the patience to wait till their 18th birthday. This causes problems in society, because the number of children in a coma or the children with drink problem is increased in the last few years.  Also is the number of smoking studends increased, especially in lower education (VMBO-scholen). That's why there will be more campaigns at lower education than at higher education (VWO-scholen). That’s probably because students in higher education are wiser and realize the consequences better. Nowadays you need the wheetcard in the Netherlands to buy drugs in coffee shops. Then you will be registered by the government, so they know you're into drugs. Many people don't want this and thats why illegal drug trafficking is increasing. This is not only bad for the coffee shop, but also for society, because people can buy larger quantities of drugs.

As you can see, the government takes increasingly stringent measures, but is that always the best option?

Another aspect of the changes of society in the long term, is the using of social media and apps on the phones. With programs like Whatsapp, Twitter or Facebook, messages can be received differently than intended. This can cause arguments and conflicts between people. Previously people hadn't this problem, because there were no mobile phones, iPads or other devices with this possibility.

All tax payers who have to pay in 10 years or later, have to pay more tax, because the population that get a pension is greatly increasing, and the amount of people that have to pay for them. The taxpayers over 10 years is slowly decreasing.

The people between now and 10 years, but also later, who eventually will get a pension, will get involved with this problem. Because of the higher age requirement for a pension, will these people get involved with the aging problem. Because of this, people have to work until their 65th or even longer, would it possibly a solve fort his problem. But these people have to agree with us to solve the aging problem. They have to work longer even though they help the society.

In our opinion, every day there are new changes about the economical crisis and the fight between people. These problems will lead to possible problems in society if they are persisting. If the world is acting like this, the world will be a big disaster.

We refer to economic changes because these are the most important as they affect the other fields of our society, with an impact on education and the health system which are, in our opinion, the most sensitive areas. An economic crisis means less money – when it comes to education, less money means poorly-paid teachers, less resources in schools, less opportunities for students and, when it comes to the health system, it refers to the level of health of many people, of whole generations.

The economic crisis has also affected, and is still is, the field of investment and, as a result, the level of the society’s development.

With the end of First World War national and international economic relations were faced with problems like :

       *loss of human resources

       *issuing money without coverage

       *chaos in relations economic

       *speculation on the stock market

So there was a global economic crisis. In recent years, there has also been and still is another crisis economic. Housing crisis quickly spread on the credit cards, credit debit subsequently overwhelmed industry.

Countries several affected by the crisis had had significand increases in the minimum wage before the crisis. The country most affected by the economic crisis in this part of Europe is Latvia.

Extremely interesting is that this country has had, in the years before the crisis, the greatest increase in minimum wages in the European Union. There was the crisis with high unemployment.

     Economic health crisis

Public health experts warn of the risks posed by problems mental depression, alcohol abuse and anxiety for the citizens of the affected countries in the economic crisis like Greece, which could have major and lasting effects.

Behind every suicide crisis-hit countries such as Greece, 20 other people are desperate enough to try to take their life. And behind these suicide attempts are thousands of cases of people unknown with mental problems such as depression, alcohol abuse or anxiety which causes significant human costs and long term problems.

In our opinion, the changes that I think will lead to future problems in society are new buildings. Because you would have to destroy nature in order to build. And if you destroy nature like trees, than the earth will probably have more pollution in our air, and we won’t have as much trees to help. The construction vehicles would give off pollution and destroy at the same time. This will make the world worse for the future. And there is nobody to blame but our self.

We also feel that with the destruction of older buildings, we don’t get notice saying the building is getting to old and nobody seems to do anything until they crumble or catch fire. Those changes when you have to leave your house or apartment quickly you don’t have a place to go it would be helpful to prevent this sudden change by knowing when these buildings were built and when they will need inspection. This is a change that is hard to predict but easier to prevent.
