hc7, Lorentz Lyceum, Netherlands, Question:

All our Counties are part of a region, Northern America, Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Western Europe. Most contact, cooperation but also most conflicts are between countries in the same region. Examine in what manner the countries around you have the same, or have conflicting political and economic interests and the same and conflicting cultural aspects as your country has. Which of those interests and aspects might cause conflicts between your country and the countries around you, which of them cause closer friendships between these countries?

The most significant threat to Canada’s political, environmental and social stability is the United States of America. We think this because we have to often bail the U.S out of there problems.   Also America has been taking resources from other countries and we fear we might be the next target.  We think this because we have the most fresh water supply in the world, it might be possible that the U.S bullies us for our resources.

Some political issues are the United States seems to be controlling our Country because were “friends” and they are the “bigger” country, even though we are often considered the peacekeepers in the World. We know this because there has been many wars the U.S has contributed to and Canada has had to step in and clean up their mess, like the Afghanistan war.   As of today, the U.S  are pulling their soldiers out and Canada is expected to stay and peace keep in the area.   We hope our soldiers help to make the situation better.

As a group, we are optimistic that Canada and the U.S relationship will continue to stay strong.  However we often worry, that our ally will abuse the good relationship in the future.

The closest surrounding countries of The Netherlands are Belgium and Germany. These countries have similar system of government and the background and history have a lot similarities and the only conflicts were during first and second world war. In fact with Germany. Since  the world war two there were no more conflicts with Germany. these countries originally have  Christian background because of influence of other people with other culture and religion who came to work and live the past 50 years it is one big mix but majority is still Christian or atheist.

Other countries in Europe dealt with economy, government issues, and retirement planning, so very different comparing to the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany. because of the crisis some countries have big problems and are expecting help from countries who dealt with it In a better way. One example is the bank crisis in Cyprus right now. And also these problems are with Greece and Italy.  Before January 2002 every country had its own currency, Hollond was guilders, Germany had marks and France had Franks. And from the first of January 2002, 12 countries of the European Union changed their currency in to euro’s.

For economic reason if a country has more money than any other countries in that area, they might get jealous. And that can cause war. In the European Union, the big countries with more money have more power than the small countries.

Maybe also for social reasons, because when a lot of immigrants come to Europe and they don’t accept the foreign people,  they sent them away to other countries. And if the other country doesn’t accept them, there might come war.

Things that cause closer bonds between countries: everybody has the same rights so trading will be easier and the countries become friends.

Ukraine is part of Eastern Europe.

Ukraine has formal relations with many nations and in recent decades has been establishing diplomatic relations with an expanding circle of nations. The foreign relations of Ukraine are guided by a number of key priorities outlined in the foreign policy of Ukraine.

Conflict of interest (COI) is usually understood quite broadly as a social phenomenon related to corruption, lobbying, nepotism, patronage, clientelism or the activity of informal networks of power. What are the current expressions of conflicts of interest in various spheres of social life in Eastern Europe - politics, economy, science?

Although diverse examples of COI are studied by social researchers from Eastern Europe who tend to agree about its ubiquity and importance in post-communist countries, the questions mentioned above remain often unanswered.

Ukraine has formal relations with many nations and in recent decades has been establishing diplomatic relations with an expanding circle of nations. The foreign relations of Ukraine are guided by a number of key priorities outlined in the foreign policy of Ukraine.

  • The 1997 boundary treaty with Belarus remains un-ratified due to unresolved financial claims, stalling demarcation and reducing border security.
  • Delimitation of the land boundary with Russia is incomplete, but the parties have agreed to defer demarcation.
  • Moldova and Ukraine have established joint customs posts to monitor transit through Moldova's break-away Transnistria Region.
  • Ukraine and Romania have settled their dispute over the Ukrainian-administered Zmiyinyy (Snake) Island and the Black Sea maritime boundary at the ICJ.

Romania promotes good  neighbourly relations and cooperation with the countries of South-East Europe in implementing the stability pact to ensure peace, consolidation of democracy, respect for human rights and economic prosperity. Diplomatic relations maintained by Romania have helped the image in the external reinforcement and development of the economic potential and security.

For example, the relations of Romania with Hungary and cordiality have survived at the highest level even though there have been some discussion concerning The Szeklerland, while those with the Republic of Moldova have a special status, animated by the historical, cultural, and linguistic. Romania's relations with the Republic of Bulgaria are excellent, being developed on the basis of a political and diplomatic dialogue, often through a dynamic cooperation in the european  sectoral plan.

Disagreements with Ukraine caused  by Snake Island were resolved  before the International Court of Justice, Romania's advantage. However, both countries express interest in continuing active bilateral cooperation  to achieve the level of good neighborliness and pragmatic partnership.

But, regardless of the position of a State in a particular issue, we believe that we can live together in serenity and peace with our neighbors.

Romania is part of South-Eastern Europe.

Conflicts of interest and incompatibilities constitute one of the most important challenges to the establishment of rule of law in South East Europe. Successfully tackling these phenomena is a key issue in the relationship between the countries in the region and the European Union. Romania has been an EU member state for six years, Croatia will be admitted in the very near future, and the Republic of Moldova is making progress towards closer ties with the European Union. Therefore, in Bucharest,Zagreb and Chisinau alike, legislation was adopted geared at fighting corruption and at ensuring the integrity of public officials. Yet there is still a gap between legal provisions and the implementation thereof. In this context strong and independent bod ies that have the right and the duty to check public officials’ assets and possible incompatibilities are of extreme importance.Present studies represent an important contribution in this respect. The authors of each country study provide a realistic picture of the state of play in the fight against corruption in Romania, the Republic of Moldova and Croatia. They offer valuable insights into strengths and weaknesses of institutions and mechanisms employed to combat conflicts of interests and incompatibilities.

Fortunately these issues can't lead to conflict between Romania and neighboring countries. I believe solving these conflicts could form a link between Romania, Moldova and Croatia to fight corruption together.

Hello Lorentz Lyceum,Netherlands

We have found some interests and aspects might cause conflicts, and friendships between our bordering countries. For instance resources could cause conflicts because certain resources are rare and come into use very often, like oil.  Land could also be a problem and a bonus because maybe bordering countries would want to expand there land and the other country stopping them which would cause war. But bordering countries could also be friends through trade and alliances through war which is actually what we were going to talk about next, war. A war between two different regions would cause the countries in the same region to work together against the other region(s). But a war between multiple countries in the same region would cause the countries to have more conflicts.

In each country, region, and continent, there are many people and families who have many different religions. Religions could cause conflicts between one family and another who were previously friends, or two families that have the same religion could start a friendship. Two different religions within the same family could cause a conflict between the two peoples.

Over all, different interests and aspects have caused conflicts and friendships and will cause conflicts and friendships in the future.

Countries specifically focus on their neighbours’ doing as they want to improve themselves. However, smaller countries tend to have less power than the larger ones and therefore … -
