hc8, COLEGIUL ECONOMIC BUZAU, Romania, teacher Popa Mariana, Question:

Many human conflicts globally are caused by ethnic and religious aspects. How do you explain this?

Many conflicts have been caused by religious conflicts between groups.  Religion is a tricky subject because no matter where people lie on the belief scale, they are passionate either way.  Its like a number line with extreme or extremists on either end/side.  The problems arise when people or groups disagree on what they feel is right in their minds.  There is often no convincing others of an opposite view, despite thorough negotiations and reasoning.  Belief is so powerful that it can cloud peoples ability to see.  Unfortunatley what tends to happen when passionate issues and beliefs mix can often become violent.  We think its because of the high level of frustration and how personal these issues can become.

QUESTION:

Many human conflicts globally are caused by ethnic and religious aspects.

How do you explain this?

ANSWER:

There are many discussions about religion in the world.

Many fights about religions , some those fights end in wars that’s very extreme, but it happens.

Why? That’s the big question, some people don’t respect other religion and they think that there religion is the one and only one to believe in.

That is unrespect full  because we live here in the Netherlands and Catholics and Muslims respect each other most of the time.

There are many religion problems worldwide, most problems are outside Europe. There is also a religion problem in Northern Ireland between Catholics and Protestants. Northern Ireland is divided: the Catholics want the British depart and Northern Ireland at Ireland going to hear. The Protestants want Northern Ireland to England continues to hear this causes Catholic and Protestants in Northern Ireland for many years serious quarrel.

In the Netherlands we also have some small conflicts between religions, Muslims are getting unfair chances in the Dutch community.

In the not Western country’s religion is still a very important aspect of  the daily life. Normal things life eating, day spending and sex is define bij religion. In all religions there are big differences. Moslims can’t eat pork, for example and at Buddhisms can’t eat cow cause it’s not allowed for their religion. It’s quite clever that when the religion is really different, that daily life and culture are different is. If the different cultures are gonna live in one country or area there are gonna be collisions and conflicts between the different cultures and religions.

At any given time during the past decade, several ethnic conflicts have raged around the world. In the year 2001, these include such well-known cases as Kosovo, Chechnya, Israel, Kashmir, Sri Lanka, and Indonesia. In the view of many political analysts and social scientists, the era of the Cold War and ideological conflict has given way to an era of ethnic wars and cultural conflicts. Whether one subscribes to this characterization or another (one of the most convincing is that this is the era of globalization), ethnic conflict is an undeniable feature of the contemporary sociopolitical landscape.

What is its cause?

-The problem with answering that question is not the lack of theories, but rather an excess. Around the question of ethnic conflict has sprouted a plethora of answers, a thicket of theories suggesting variously that:

  • cultural traditions and historical legacies are giving rise to "primordial hatreds"
  • the socioeconomic tensions produced by modernization and uneven development stoke violence among ethnic groups
  • political disorder and "failed states" create a "security dilemma" between ethnic groups that are often exploited by ambitious and unscrupulous "political entrepreneurs.

Many human conflicts globally are caused by ethnic and religious aspects. How do you explain this?

People all have different ways of thinking and habits. Sometimes people don’t agree with each other.
That has to do with the way they live, the way they think en the religion which they believe in.
Some people hate each others religions. It starts small and then it became bigger, than it turns out into a war.

Example: WW II
According to Adolf  Hitler the Jews deserved for many reasons nothing but be hated. He also said that Jews people were inferior. He believed in a superior race: the Aryan race.

Answer from hc9

I think that these conflicts should not be caused by religious reasons. Any person has rights and we must respect them. We don’t have the power to condamn people for religious aspects.

Some people are influenced by movies or music message and make discriminations or condamn people.

Even today this subject is too deep to discus. About a half a year ago many people from the  Middle East went out into the street, because an American film affended their religion.

Many  conflicts and even wars were caused, and still are, by religious reasons. There are many countries in the world, even today, where group of people are persecuted because of their religion.

On the other hand, people sometimes take their religios beliefs to an extreme and, not only are they ready to die for them, but they are also ready to kill other people. They are fanatics who lose their sense of reason.

This topic is very sensitive.Globalization is influencing it but not always in a positive way.

Hello, Romania,

Here is our answer to your question.

Different religions fight because of their differences in opinions in gods/goddesses, and their beliefs in how life should be or how life, Earth, or humanity was or could have been created.

Some people believe so strongly in their religion that they try to force it upon other. They believe everyone should feel the same as them. Sometimes they may ridicule other's religion.

An example that comes to mind is when Zayn Malik, the musician from One Direction, was 'getting hated' for being a Muslim. He began losing some fans as the news spread. Some people were Tweeting mean comments just because he has a different religion. This is an example of bullying or conflict just because of a certain religion.

Our answer to this question:

Since the beginning of the humanity people have formed ethnic groups.
- People want to show that they are separate ( separatism ).
- Wars are fought because they want their own country and religion. This is called nationalism.
